Air pollution is linked to nearly 7 million premature deaths annually worldwide. Despite strong public interest in understanding air pollution sources, many repositories available online make it difficult for a lay user to understand the concepts due to technical terminology, scientific units, and complex visualization design.
The Coal Pollution Impacts Explorer -- is an online platform that will allow users to explore and answer questions about air pollution data from coal-fired power plants in the United States over the past two decades. This ongoing project is currently conducting usability studies to inform iterations of the platform design prior to broader dissemination.
